This past Thursday morning Criminal Appeals Advocates attornies conducted a Town Hall discussing New York CPL 440 post-conviction motions. CPL 440 Motions allow prison inmates to raise arguments about how their rights were violated in a manner that could not be raised in the traditional appeal process.
The half-hour program included questions about strategies for CPL 440 motions, how they differ from other appeals, the impact of arguing "ineffective assistance of counsel," how court-appointed lawyers can differ from private attorneys, the emotional aspect of representation, and a variety of other topics related to New York criminal apeals.
